Willow (Salix) integra ‘Hakuro-nishiki’, commonly called the shrimp willow or flamingo tree, is a charming deciduous tree that grows as a compact shrub. It features delicate, slender leaves that are marbled with white and green and tipped with pink, creating a frothy confection. In autumn, the leaves drop to reveal coral-orange stems that add interest to the winter garden. This lovely tree produces yellow catkins before the leaves emerge in spring. It's perfect for smaller gardens and is often sold as a grafted standard or lollipop tree. Salix integra ‘Hakuro-nishiki’ prefers moist, well-drained soil and can be grown in full sun or dappled shade. Pruning is recommended in winter and again in summer if needed. The Royal Horticultural Society has awarded it the prestigious Award of Garden Merit.
